In thinking about what I would say to you today my husband, Tim, and I discussed enough
material for a hundred sermons. Motherhood is indeed a loaded topic and I am a recent initiate. The fact that
today is Mother’s Day makes it even weightier. I worry that my lips will not work and that my annunciation
has gone. This is the longest I have spoken to a group of adults since my son Clayton was born 10 months ago.

In the Bible, in the book of Isaiah, it is written “A little child shall lead them.” I had no idea how true that
would be when I became a mother. I had no inkling of the paths and roads and train tracks my son would lead me down
on my journey. Clayton has been one of my greatest teachers. Today I would like to share a few of the lessons that
he has taught me in his first three and a half years here on earth.
